Mandate of the Ministry

Mission
- To bridge the communication gap between government and citizens (Information) and
- To provide the enabling environment that will foster informed and engaged citizens, thereby contributing to a more inclusive, responsible, and participatory society through civic engagement that contributes to the socio-economic development of the country (Civic Education).
Functions of the Ministry
- Formulate appropriate policies, legislation, and regulations for the information and Civic Education Sector;
- Provide policy guidance and strategic direction on all matters concerning the media, access to public information, broadcasting and Civic education
- Develop suitable information and Civic Education delivery plans in consultation with stakeholders;
- Coordinate and liaise with MDAs, Local Councils, regional and international organizations on Information and Civic Education and set up inter-ministerial and inter-sectoral committees;
- Coordinate and liaise with the private and public sector media institutions to promote the interest of government and ensure effective citizen engagement;
- Create an enabling and responsive policy environment for citizens and partners to access credible, factual information and leverage mass media.
- Setting standard for Public Media Institutions and ensuring dynamic two-way communication channels for citizen feedback;
- Facilitate and promote dissemination of credible information and civic education in Sierra Leone;
- Coordinate and shape the Civic Education Standards by elevating civic engagement and unifying a brand narrative for Sierra Leone that resonates deeply with its people in collaboration with other MDAs.
- Facilitate, network and attract local and foreign investment in Information and Civic Education.
- Coordinate the publishing of Government Information.
