♦The Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, assured citizens that state authorities are currently working on a rescue mission to remove the 100 artisanal miners who got trapped in their mining site in Nimikoro Chiefdom, Kono District. Minister Bah expressed empathy for the victims and assured that in the coming days, details of the rescue mission will be communicated to the public.

♦Minister Chernor Bah provided brief update on drug related issues in Sierra Leone. With regards the one involving a Sierra Leone Embassy in Guinea utility vehicle, Minister Bah reported that the Guinean authorities have concluded investigation and charged to court the individuals arrested in the said vehicle. However, the Guinean authorities did not find any criminal involvement of the then Sierra Leone Ambassador to Guinea and that President Bio only used his discretion to recall him. Responding to questions on the extradition process of alleged Dutch drug dealer Jos, Minister Bah assured the public that the Office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice is currently working with various international partners including the Dutch authorities to expedite the extradition. However, Minister Bah cautioned that the extradition process will follow the laws of Sierra Leone to ensure the rule of law is upheld.

Following media claims of a Turkish drug lord being in possession of Sierra Leone’s diplomatic passport, Minister Bah informed the public that the government is investigating the matter to ascertain the facts. Minister Bah emphasised that the public should understand that anyone can be a criminal on their own volition but the government can never issue the country’s passport to known criminals.

♦The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Francess Piagie Alghali, emphasized on Sierra Leone’s 65 years of membership of the United Nations. She stated that one of the United Nations unique success stories of peacekeeping and peace building is Sierra Leone. Deputy Minister Alghali added that Sierra Leone cooperated with the United Nations peacekeeping missions and highlighted several benefits the country has derived from various United Nations agencies – UNDP, UNIDO, WFP, WHO etc.

Speaking on the commemoration of the 80 years of multilateralism of the United Nations, Deputy Minister Alghali informed the public that there will be a flag raising commemoration at the Hockey pitch in honor of peacekeepers that lost their lives in Sierra Leone. An inter-school quiz competition, symposium and photo exhibition of UN’s work in Sierra Leone climaxed with a peace concert at Gigibonta.

Deputy Minister Alghali re-echoed Africa’s call for reform of the United Nations especially the Security Council, a move championed by His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio to bring an end to Africa’s historic injustice in the United Nations.

Deputy Minister Alghali disclosed that Sierra Leone for the second time will take the role of the United Nations Security Council Presidency starting November 2025.

♦The Communication Specialist at the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Augustine Bamie Anthony, provided comprehensive updates on the recently released 2025 WASSCE results. The statistical breakdown is as follows:

•148,313 candidate registered for the 2025 Exam.

•97,817 results were released by WAEC.

•13,237 results withheld.

•35,020 absentees.

•3,537 result withheld for 20 private schools pending payments.

• English pass rate is 11.77%

•Mathematics pass rate is 47%

♦On performance, Mr. Augustine Bamie Anthony said 52% accounting for 47,434 candidates, had five credits and above. Roselyn Jalloh, a female student of Modern Academy Senior School of Excellence, topped the exam with 4A1s, 3B2s, 2B3s – an average grade unit of 1.78. The second position was clinched by Affuah-James Russel of the International School Limited who scored 6A1s, 2B3s, and 1C5 with an average grade unit of 1.89.

Overall, Dele Peddle International High School came first with a 100% pass rate.

♦The Legal One at the National Fire Force Bintu Fatmata Kamara Esq. Provided updates on the Fire Safety Bill which aims to assess the risks posed by fire and to eliminate it to a tolerable level. The Bill contains 58 sections, according to Madam Bintu, who emphasized on section 8 which provides and gives the mandate to the Chief Fire Officer to recommend for more hydrants to fight fire. Another area she pointed out is section 9 which criminalizes prank calls. People who used to call the toll lines and make pranks will be prosecuted under this Fire Safety Bill. Overall, the bill aims to proactively fight fire hazards prevention and public awareness. Madam Bintu Fatmata Kamara Esq. also said they are currently working to popularize the Bill across the country to get inputs from citizens and ensure it is sent to parliament for approval. Madam Bintu provided the National Fire Force free toll lines as follows: Central: 300, Kissy Eastern: 301, Western: 302 and far East: 309 on all mobile networks.
