At the West Africa Youth Symposium held at the Miatta Civic Centre in Freetown on 13th March 2026, 100 young leaders gathered to reflect on a critical question: Who will own Africa’s next economy?

Welcoming participants, the Director of Civic Education and Citizen Engagement, Timothy Sam of the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, emphasized that Africa’s future will be shaped by the ideas and civic responsibility of its young people.

“Africa’s greatest resource is not beneath the ground — it is within the minds of its young people,” he noted, emphasizing that the continent’s transformation will be driven by ideas, innovation, and civic responsibility.

The event featured former Nigerian Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo, who encouraged young Africans to see themselves as active problem-solvers in shaping the continent’s future.

“International funding alone will never be enough. Africa must also mobilize its own resources. The private sector on the continent needs to play a bigger role in supporting youth innovation.” — Prof. Yemi Osinbajo

Hosted by Future Perspectives in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, the symposium created a platform for dialogue on youth leadership, innovation, and Africa’s development trajectory.
