Gabonese President, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, is expected to arrive in Sierra Leone on August 2 for a State Visit aimed at strengthening the longstanding relations between the two countries and expanding cooperation in key areas of mutual interest.
Informing journalists about the State Visit today at the Miatta Civic Centre in Freetown, the Deputy Minister of Information and Civic Education, Abdul Aziz Bawoh, said the visit represents an important step in translating years of cordial diplomatic relations into deeper economic cooperation, knowledge exchange, and broader opportunities for collaboration.
Deputy Minister Bawoh pointed out that the visit reflects the importance both countries attach to diplomacy, dialogue, and collaboration in driving national development and regional cooperation.
He noted that strong diplomatic ties not only bring governments together but also help protect the interests of citizens of both countries residing and working within each other’s borders.
As part of the visit, President Nguema is expected to hold bilateral discussions with President Julius Maada Bio and meet senior government officials on issues ranging from trade and investment to agriculture, health, technology, and democratic governance.
Discussions are also expected to focus on expanding economic opportunities and strengthening cooperation in sectors that support growth and development.
The Gabonese leader will further engage representatives of the private sector as Sierra Leone and Gabon explore avenues for increased investment and business collaboration.
These engagements are expected to contribute to efforts aimed at creating stronger economic links between the two nations.
President Nguema’s itinerary also includes visits to selected tourist destinations in and around Freetown, providing an opportunity to experience Sierra Leone’s rich cultural heritage and growing tourism potential.
The visit builds on the strong friendship that has existed between the two leaders over the years, including President Bio’s previous visit to Gabon.
The Ministry says the visit underscores Sierra Leone’s commitment to fostering productive international partnerships built on mutual respect, shared aspirations, and a common vision for sustainable development, while further strengthening ties between the people and governments of Sierra Leone and Gabon.
