The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) used the Civic Day Series in Kamakwie, Karene District, on April 14, 2026, to highlight the importance of public awareness, timely reporting, and effective communication in disaster response and management.

The Deputy Director General of NDMA, Sulaiman Bandajuma Sowa, delivered the final presentation of the day, focusing on the Agency’s mandate and its role in protecting lives and property during emergencies.

Mr. Sowa emphasized that effective disaster management depends heavily on clear communication between citizens and the Agency. He said that when people approach the NDMA with concerns, they should clearly explain the nature of their problems so that the Agency can better understand the situation and respond appropriately.

He furthered that in times of emergencies, accidents, or disasters, the NDMA should be among the first institutions citizens contact. According to him, early reporting enables faster intervention, improved coordination, and more efficient delivery of assistance to affected communities.

The Deputy Director General also encouraged residents to become more aware of the Agency’s work and to cooperate with disaster response efforts aimed at safeguarding communities.

His presentation reinforced the importance of public cooperation, preparedness, and prompt communication as key elements in strengthening national disaster resilience.

The Civic Day Series in Kamakwie brought together citizens, government representatives, and institutions to discuss development issues, public services, and citizen engagement in governance.
