During the Ministry of Information and Civic Education’s weekly press conference at the Miatta Conference Centre, on Tuesday 23rd September 2025, the Chairlady of the Sewa Grounds Market, Madam Fudia Gbla, appealed to the Sierra Estate Management Company (SEMCO) to prioritize original occupants of the market in the allocation of new stalls within the market.

“We plead for management to make the forms available to us who are original occupants of the market. My team will work with management to help our members fill out the forms,” Madam Gbla said.

She disclosed that her team has already taken proactive steps by forming an association and issuing membership ID cards to former occupants in order to ensure smooth reintegration into the new market space.

Madam Gbla commended the Government of Sierra Leone and NASSIT for the successful completion of the Sewa Market and expressed her support for the already instituted NLe 6,000 stall fee, acknowledging the investment made in the project. “A lot of finances have been invested into this market….I can see it myself,” she noted.

She concluded her statement by reiterating their passionate plea to SEMCO to take their request into consideration.
